About SBA CPA

SBA CPA is a Colorado accounting firm that began in Estes Park in 2013 and now serves businesses and individuals from six offices along the Front Range. We bring tax, accounting, payroll and advisory work together in one team, so the people who keep your books also understand your plans.

Who we are

SBA CPA was founded in 2013 in Estes Park, Colorado. Estes Park is still home to one of our offices, and it is where the firm learned to work with owners who wear every hat in their business. From there the firm grew along the Front Range, and today we serve clients from six offices: Denver, Littleton, Lakewood, Loveland, Estes Park and Boulder.

Our clients work in more than 50 industries. Many are small and mid-sized businesses, from a single-location cafe to a contractor running several crews. Others are the owners themselves, along with their families, investments and plans for the future. About 95% of our clients stay with us year after year, which we take as the clearest measure of whether the work is useful.

The firm is led by Dmitri Galcovski, CPA, President and CEO. Our team includes accountants, CPAs, enrolled agents, virtual CFOs and business consultants, along with the bookkeeping, payroll and client services staff who keep the day-to-day work moving. We invest in professional development at every level, because tax and accounting rules change every year.

How we work

One team across tax, accounting and advisory

Most businesses end up with a bookkeeper, a payroll provider, a tax preparer and sometimes a consultant, none of whom talk to each other. We built the firm to avoid that. Accounting, tax, payroll, assurance, consulting and mergers and acquisitions work all sit under one roof, so the numbers your tax return relies on are the same numbers your monthly reports and planning use. You get one view of the business instead of several partial ones.

Data first, then decisions

Our approach starts with clean, timely information. We set up accounting systems that capture what is happening in the business accurately and promptly, then turn that information into reports an owner can actually use: which jobs or products make money, where the cash goes and what a decision is likely to do to both. Recommendations come from your own numbers, not from rules of thumb.

Proactive, not once a year

We would rather talk with you before you buy the equipment, sign the lease or make the hire than explain the result afterward. For most clients that means regular conversations during the year, with the most important one in the fall, while year-end planning can still change the outcome.

Technology-forward

We use modern cloud accounting, payroll and document tools, and we automate the routine parts of bookkeeping wherever it makes sense. That frees our people to spend their time on review and advice rather than data entry. It also means clients exchange documents through a secure portal rather than email, and get their reports while the information is still current.

Day-to-day support when you need it

Some clients want us to handle the whole back office: bills, invoicing, payroll, reconciliations and monthly reporting. Others have an in-house bookkeeper and want review, coverage when that person is away and a second set of eyes on controls. A small business often cannot separate duties the way a large one can, so we help design simple checks, such as making sure the person who writes checks is not the same person who reconciles the bank account.

The firms that have joined us

SBA CPA has grown in part by welcoming established local practices into the firm. Each brought clients who valued a long relationship with their accountant, and we work to keep that personal relationship while adding the depth of a larger team. Brands that are now part of the firm include Boulder CPAs, formed through our merger with Gibbs and Associates, as well as Estes Park CPA, Loveland CPAs, Denver Accounting Firm and Linda Holdredge & Associates, CPA, P.C. Payroll services are delivered under the Payroll Plus name. You can read more about each on our brands and affiliates page.

What working with us looks like

Every engagement starts with an introductory call with our client services team about your needs, the scope of work and fit. If it makes sense to work together, we send a proposal that spells out what is included and what it costs. Once the engagement is in place, you work with a dedicated team that learns your business and stays with it.

If you would like to see what that has looked like for other owners, our case studies walk through four engagements and their results.
